Baseball Development
Baseball mechanic-related arm pain is expectedly a very widespread issue for high school athletes, parents, and coaches. At Professional Therapy Solutions, we understand that while there is no way to get rid of arm pain within this discipline completely, medical knowledge has advanced so greatly that we can provide effective solutions to address your needs.
We have evidence that every pitcher has between five and ten contributing factors to pain and loss in throwing power – so we start with highlighting to biggest factor and working down from there. The more you train and evaluate, the more finely tuned and effective your programs success will be.
The PTS baseball development program includes three key elements mirrored in our Power Pitching Program that aid in the success of our athletes.
From a physical perspective, tightness is typically the number one answer to arm pain and the significant reduction in velocity for a lot of very active pitchers. When there is tightness in the upper back, hamstrings, pelvis, and hips, the body cannot move as efficiently and ultimately compromise the shoulder and elbow.
Our idea is to train these pitchers to focus on increasing their mobility, so their range of motion allows them to get into high velocity positions more easily.
Power is a vital part of any athlete’s game – but pitchers are required to be strong in areas that aren’t often incorporated into most training programs. Our program intentionally focuses on building dynamic core strength and stabilizing the shoulders, scapula, and legs.
It’s often that we see pitchers starting off in our program unaware of how to control and use their bodyweight to their advantage. Keeping this in mind, we designed our classes to begin with zeroing in on movement and strength instead of starting off on heavy loads.
There is no single right way to throw, because every pitcher has their own unique throwing pattern and motion. With that uniqueness comes a variety of reasons that can cause arm pain and possible injury down the line. When we teach our throwing mechanics, we prioritize the elimination of this discomfort in three ways:
- Pitchers should be focused on the game, and the mechanics should come without any extra thought. Our vault of innovative tools helps correct the errors that make them overthink their movements through repetitive exercises that help the body default to these mechanisms.
- You should always be training. In order to keep you training, we mostly use drills that don’t stress the arm and rather prioritize increasing mobility. This way, you can stick to your program longer without fear of overuse.
- We teach you how to maintain body control and have fast reaction rates that help you perfectly time all types of pitches. From throwing exercises from unstable foundations to a variety of jumping, lunging, and running exercises, we’ll work to find your ideal throwing motion.
Your child or teen can reach their full potential and have optimal performance without worrying about how long they will be able to play their favorite game. With over 200 cases of pitchers improving through our baseball development program and Power Pitching Program, we know how to help you reach the velocity you’re looking for.
